Jeff Bezos’ “Blue Origin” has now sent a handful of celebrities and other “important” people into space. Yesterday saw Katy Perry hitch a ride to the outer reaches of the atmosphere with an all female crew including CBS host (and Oprah friend) Gayle King and Bezos’ fiancee Lauren Sanchez. But…big whoop!
As they returned to Earth, they kissed the ground. They were gone a whopping ELEVEN MINUTES!!! I’ve been gone to the bathroom for WAAAY longer. My wife also didn’t know if I’d return. I too walked out the door with wobbly legs. Does this make me a hero?
Honestly, it’s more heroic to board a passenger flight these days. The track record of air travel hasn’t been too hot lately. Not to mention the struggle and stress of delays and baggage. These celebrities all travel private. This is as close to a struggle they get nowadays.
Here’s what they did. They paid $28 million (an actual amount someone has paid to fly with Blue Origin) and say in a chair. That’s it! What an accomplishment.
I know what you’re thinking. “Chad, sounds like sour grapes to me.”. Absolutely. I’m not one of those people that think it’s insensitive of these celebs to spend their money on space flights. It’s their money. Spend it however they please. Just don’t act like you’re some sort of astronaut. You just rode a really expensive roller coaster. That’s all.
-Chad
